I am looking for book recommendations.

I am not a student at Touro. I am a Christian and am looking for book recommendations regarding two questions: - What is the history of the Christian church treating Jews badly? How did the "Christian nation" of Germany change into a mass murdering Nazi regime?

Answer

Here is a reading list from the Jewish Book Council.

It seems to me that your two questions are really one, from the point of view of a Jewish history class.  Both address the hatred of Jews when they are perceived to be the "other".

Here are some titles that are in our collection. If you have access to a public library, these books can be borrowed on your behalf from a library that owns them.

Goldhagen, Daniel Jonah

Hitler's Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust
New York: Knopf: Distributed by Random House, 1996

Probst, Christopher J., 1969-
Demonizing the Jews: Luther and the Protestant Church in Nazi Germany
Bloomington: Indiana University Press, c2012

Kertzer, David I., 1948-
Unholy War: The Vatican's Role in the Rise of Modern Anti-Semitism
London: Pan, 2003

Sapir Abulafia, Anna
Christians and Jews in Dispute: Disputational Literature and the Rise of Anti-Judaism in the West (c. 1000-1150)
Aldershot, Hampshire; Brookfield, VT: Ashgate, c1998

 Nirenberg, David, 1964-
Anti-Judaism: The Western Tradition
New York: W. W. Norton & Co., c2013

Johnson, Hannah R., 1974-
Blood Libel: The Ritual Murder Accusation at the Limit of Jewish history
University of Michigan Press: 2012

Don't discount Wikipedia.  The hyperlinks at the bottom of the page will bring you to interesting sources.

And finally, here are links to Jewish Virtual Library, a well respected online encyclopedia, with articles on Anti-Semitism and Christian-Jewish relations
