Although we usually recommend that everyone begin their research using QuickSearch in order to search across all databases, sometimes it is better to select one database known to be rich in the content you are seeking. JSTOR is the database for you! It specializes in arts, humanities, and social science journals, with the dates of some journals going back to the mid-1800's. The history articles are written by historians, for historians.
You can also get a good start using Wikipedia, not for the information they give but for their bibliographies they provide. Their entries often contain links to other useful articles.
